For greater comfort whilst administering blood
transfusions (which will take 4 to 6 hours each session), The Sarawak General Hospital
(SGH) has
kindly agreed to the Sarawak Thalassaemia Society's request to setup a Day Care
Center for our members.
With
the opening of the new Hospital wings, SGH has kindly agreed to spare a
more generous space of the paediatric ward as our Day Care Center. With
a bigger floor area, we could afford to have more furnishing, which are
all donated by our generous supporters. From wall painting to television
set, if you would like to be a sponsor for these equipments, please
email to us, or call Catherine (255486) for further details.

Blood
Transfusion |

Most of the patients come in for their blood
transfusions on Friday and Saturday. This arrangement minimizes their time spent in the
hospital at the same time does not interrupt their regular school hours. The Center also
intended for the benefit of other patients who need blood transfusions regularly.
Our members can also buy the subsidized Desferal
and accessories from the Sarawak Thalassaemia Society during 1-2 pm, every Saturday
afternoon at the Center here. Parents make their orders when they bring their children for
checkup two days before the transfusion. The doctors (Dr Kok & Dr Ong) and staff
nurses (Sim Lang Ing & Yong Lin Swee) who volunteered to take the orders will then
arrange for the stock to be picked up during the said time. This arrangement has been well
received by all the parents in Kuching.
