En Zulkarnaen Jamanil of Syarikat Sutano has kindly donated 1 unit of Hemocue B Hemoglobin Photometer & 1 box of B Hemoglobin Microcuvettes for our Society. This equipment can provide on the spot hemoglobin reading, thus saving the time and hassles of sending the blood samples to the lab for testing. The presentation of the Photometer and demostration of the unit took place at the Thalassaemia Day Center on 25 Jan 2003.

One of the founder of the Sarawak Thalassaemia Society, Mr Stephen Chuo and his wife, Ms Catherine Sia first learned that their eldest child, Philip was a thalassaemia major back in 1984. After years of own researches on how to cope with the new discovery in their family lives, and continuing consultations with many doctors, in particular Dr Bibiana Teo, they took the initiative to form a support group with the other thalassaemic parents in 1994.

Since then, they have been very active in the running of the Society's activities, especially in promoting the Society's fund raising projects. Although as a member, their child can enjoy all the benefits as offered by the Society under our subsidy scheme, Mr & Mrs Chuo have chosen to pay full price, in order to let more of the less privileged thalassaemic children to enjoy the benefits. We hope their commendable compassion towards the welfare of the other thalassamic families can generate more generous support and participation by others.
